Barrelhouse Write-ins
Write-in updates now happen on Bluesky!
What’s a write-in?
A write-in is where writers meet up in a chat room, and then work on their own projects. It might seem pretty basic, and it is, but it gets results. Also, it’s just fun to talk to other writers someplace besides social media.
What are write-ins like?
Write-ins typically last an hour. Arriving late or leaving early is fine -- it doesn’t intrude on the session, life happens, we totally get it. You’re awesome for just being there, seriously.
You’ll enter a chat room. There’ll be no cameras, and no mics. If the host is not off making their write-in coffee when you arrive, they’ll say hello.
At five minutes after the hour, the host will say it’s time to start. There will probably be some kind of chill video in the chat room that you can stare at if you need to. The host will say when it’s halftime, in case you want to take a short break. You’re welcome to chat in the chat room at any point during the write-in. We especially like hearing about what you’re working on, and how it’s going.
When the write-in is over, the host closes the chat room, and everyone does whatever is next in the journey they call life until next time.
When do write-ins happen?
Currently, write-ins are not on a regular schedule. We announce them on Bluesky, and we send email notifications to registered members when the doors open for a session. If you have suggestions/wishes for specific days and times, please let us know!
How much do write-ins cost, and how do I join them?
Write-ins are free, free, free!
You’ll need to sign up before you can join, but it’s pretty easy and straightforward. Here’s the signup link. We don’t use your email address for anything other than email alerts when there’s a write-in, we promise.
Okay, I’m signed up. Now what?
Whenever there’s a write-in about to start, you’ll get an email. When you get the email, go to this page and look for a write-in to join under “Conferences” or “Big Blue Button.” If you have trouble anywhere along the way, tag us on Bluesky or, since Bluesky doesn’t have DMs, use this Linktree to find your easiest way to contact Erin.
See you there!
